Through my work, I explore tension. Everyday, all of us struggle with the tension between those things we yearn for, and those things we are resigned to. Depending on which side wins out on any particular day, we will tend toward either hope or despair. My photographs seek to acknowledge the things that bring resignation and at times despair, while providing glimpses of those things we yearn for, even if at times the clearest picture we have is the absence of them. In spite of this, people continue to yearn for something better and something satisfying, and I have set out to document and imagine this with my cameras, whether it be through looking for the mythical "decisive moment", or through building layers of context, meaning, and narrative with multiple images or sequences.
